ABOUT TBR

THE MISSION OF THE TRAVEL BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE (TBR) IS TO EDUCATE ELECTED OFFICIALS ABOUT THE IMPORTANT ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE TRAVEL AND TOURISM INDUSTRY.

Established in 1995 to continue the momentum of the White House Conference on Travel and Tourism, TBR has helped ensure that the diverse industry speaks with a unified and powerful voice. Members of Congress and members of the media now recognize TBR as the leading voice on government policy in Washington.

With its membership of some 70 CEOs and senior executives from the leading travel-related
companies,
TBR is truly representative of the many sectors that comprise the travel and
tourism industry.

In addition to hotels, airlines, car rental agencies, travel management companies, theme parks, and financial service companies, TBR’s roster also includes important members such as Coca-Cola, USA Today, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the National Football League, the National Hockey League, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

TBR has been particularly successful through our active work and presence on Capitol Hill.
Since its inception, TBR members have visited more than 60 Senators and 250 members of the House. In light of the September 11, 2001 tragedies and the resulting impact on travel and tourism, this activity has become even more central to the mission of the organization.

Over the past several years, meetings were conducted with the following:

The Speaker and Minority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives
The Majority and Minority Leaders and Whips of the U.S. Senate
The Secretary of State
The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security
The Secretary of the Treasury
The Secretary of Commerce
The Secretary of Labor
The Secretary of Transportation
The Secretary of the Interior
The Chiefs of Staff to the President and Vice President
The Chief Domestic Policy Advisors to the President and Vice President
The Senior Advisor to the President for Strategic Initiatives
The Director of the White House National Economic Council
The Democratic Caucus of the Senate
The House Blue Dog Caucus
The Economic Development Committee of the National Governors Association
The United States Conference of Mayors Tourism Task Force

Another considerable accomplishment has been the reconstitution of a meaningful, bipartisan travel and tourism caucus in the House of Representatives, co-chaired by Rep. Sam Farr (Calif.) and Rep. Jon Porter (R-NV), with members from every major committee of jurisdictional interest to the industry.

Lastly, and perhaps, most importantly, TBR has focused on creating a unified and sustained governmental approach for our industry. Policymakers on Capitol Hill, in the Administration, and on state and local levels of government, have a greater understanding of the industry’s role as an engine for economic development and job creation.
