The tragedy in the Gulf Coast Region is unparalleled in our nation's history. The loss of life, the threat of disease, the destruction of property, and the prolonged disruption to everyday life in the affected communities is simply staggering. The social and economic consequences of this disaster on the travel and tourism industry's employees, employers and owners are, as yet, unknown.

There has been an outpouring of assistance from our industry, from Americans around the country and from citizens and governments around the globe. Travel and tourism, one of the largest industries in the affected areas, was devastated by Katrina, yet we will be at the center of the recovery effort. As individual companies, we will help our employees rebuild their lives. As an industry, we will help that region of our country rebuild its future.
